Certification-related components of this program (i.e., Supervisor and Principal certifications) require students to hold an Instructional Certificate and 3-years full-time teaching or educational services employment.
The programs in K-12 Education Leadership, Management and Policy prepare students for a variety of careers in K-12 education leadership and administration. The M.A.E. degree program prepares education professionals for leadership positions and careers in K-12 educational environments.
Students are prepared for nomination to the NJ Department of Education for the Supervisor certification in as few as two semesters. Upon completion of the M.A.E. in approximately five semesters, qualified students are eligible to be nominated for Principal certification.
Admissions Requirements
To be considered for admission, applicants are required to submit the following materials:
- Online application and application fee
- Official transcript(s) from all institutions attended, including an earned Bachelor's-level degree (3.0 cumulative GPA preferred)
- Personal statement outlining goals and professional interests
- Letters of recommendation (2) from academic and/or professional references
- Resume/Curriculum vitae, including work experience in education or a related field
Note: This program considers applications from aspiring school leaders who do not hold an instructional certificate. The curriculum includes coursework that fulfills requirements for NJ Department of Education Supervisor and Principal certifications. To be considered for nomination for either certification, however, students must hold an instructional certificate and relevant work experience. Interested students may qualify for an instructional certificate by completing either of the College's Certificate of Eligibility with Advanced Standing curriculums (available for Elementary or Secondary certification).
Application Deadline
The program reviews applications on a rolling basis and typically accepts applicants throughout the year.
Course Requirements
Students must complete a minimum of 30 credit hours, as listed below.
Other Requirements
Internship
The administrative internship is a culminating program experience that provides meaningful leadership activities within a school/district setting. Fieldwork includes 300 hours, completed during ELMP 8981 Admin Intern Part I. The internship is aligned to NELP standards. A school-based supervisor, principal, or school administrator serves as the primary mentor to the intern. A Seton Hall University professor serves as a liaison between the mentor and mentee to ensure that the intern receives the guidance and support necessary to successfully complete requirements, including the development of a portfolio.
Plan of Study

This Planner tab offers a sample semester-by-semester model schedule which accounts for historical course availability. For timely completion of the program, students must routinely meet with their assigned academic adviser to carefully plan their schedule based on available courses.
