Biology Honors

The Biology Honors Program is designed for highly motivated students with outstanding academic records and a strong interest in pursuing graduate studies in biology. Under the mentorship of a faculty advisor, students will design, conduct, analyze, and present an original research project, earning the Biology Honors distinction as part of their Bachelor of Science degree.
Admission
Due to the demanding nature of the coursework and research, applicants must be academically prepared. To apply, students must meet the following criteria:
- Maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 3.395 (the university's requirement for graduatingwith honors).
- Earn a grade of B or higher in BIOL 2221 Genetics.
- Declare biology honors as their major.
Students should submit their application to the Director of the Biology Honors Program by the end of their sophomore year to ensure timely graduation. Applications can be submitted in the fall (deadline: Sept 15) or spring (deadline: Feb 15). Before applying, students must secure a faculty member to serve as their advisor for the honors project. Applications will be reviewed by the Director, with faculty input as necessary, based on GPA, the quality of the letter of intent, and the student's ability to complete the program in a timely manner.
