WSOU 89.5 FM is the award-winning, student-run radio station of the College of Human Development, Culture, and Media and Seton Hall University. Since its inception in 1948, WSOU broadcasts from the University's South Orange campus, reaching all five boroughs of New York City, Southern Westchester and Rockland Counties of N.Y., and much of the northern and central parts of New Jersey. WSOU has programmed a hard rock format, developing a local and national reputation as an industry leader in breaking new bands. WSOU gave the first area airtime, and in some cases the first-ever airplay, to bands such as Pearl Jam, Smashing Pumpkins, Rage Against the Machine, and My Chemical Romance, among many others. WSOU is also the broadcast home for Seton Hall Athletics and additionally airs religious, public affairs, news and cultural programming.
